Inserts can enhance the feel and function of your foot within a properly fit shoe. The foot functions in 3 axes of motion. Since shoes are 2 dimensional, the use of inserts can help to improve the comfort and fit of a shoe.

Here at The Nationals Sports Medicine Institute we offer two types of orthotics, over the counter (Superfeet®) and custom heat-molded (Vasyli®) orthotics. Our physical therapists are specially trained to detect biomechanical faults in your walking and running gait which can predispose you to injury.

Some common conditions we treat:

  • Flat feet. Flat feet can cause foot, ankle, and back pain. Orthotics can help to support the feet and promote proper foot positioning.
  • High arches. Very high arches can stress muscles in the feet and lead to a number of conditions, such as shin splints, knee pain, and plantar fasciitis. Orthotics can help prevent a person’s feet from rolling excessively inward or outward.
  • Injuries. People who’ve experienced trauma to their feet and ankles may require extra support during the healing process with orthotics.
  • Back pain. Sometimes poor positioning of the feet, such as arches that roll inward, or lack of cushioning can cause pain that orthotics can lessen.
  • And many more conditions

We will assess your need for an orthotic and help to find the right insert for you.

Superfeet®

The premium insoles that Superfeet®  produces are based on proven podiatric medicine and the founder’s 45 plus years of knowledge and experience of working on feet.

The feet are the foundation of the entire skeletal system. Misalignment in the feet can cause the arch to collapse, which can cause pain in the feet, ankles, shins, knees, hips, and even up into the back, shoulders, and neck. Superfeet®  insoles provide a firm, supportive foundation to hold the body’s infrastructure in place. They contain an Encapsulating Stabilizer System (ESS) which supports the heel, allowing the foot to move easily through its range of motion.

Custom Heat Molded Orthotics (Vasyli®)

Custom made orthotics normally involve taking an impression of your feet and then creating orthotic inserts based on those impressions.  This method generally results in a comfortable fit and provides good support, the disadvantage is the price as custom made orthotics generally are expensive.   Vasyli®  Custom Orthotic Inserts are a bit different as they are heat molded (usually by a chiropractor or physical therapist ) for a comfortable fit and are more affordable.

If you find that standard orthotic inserts don’t suit your needs, you can ask for the Vasyli®  Custom line of orthotic inserts.  These orthotics are custom fit and heat molded to insure the best comfort.  Custom orthotic inserts are worth the price if you spend a good amount of time on your feet or have specific foot conditions.
