Musculoskeletal Ultrasound involves the use of a small transducer probe and ultrasound gel placed directly on the skin to show both the structures of the body at rest and with dynamic movement, as the images are captured in real time.

We most commonly utilize ultrasound to assess the integrity of superficial and deep muscles, ligaments, and tendons after an injury to assess for tears or ruptures of the tissue.

Ultrasound is a safe and painless method of producing pictures of inside the body using sound waves musculoskeletal ultrasound.

Ultrasound Guided Injections

The providers at The National Sports Medicine Institute routinely use ultrasound-guidance with injections to give our patient’s the best possible outcome.

Many recent studies have been performed comparing the efficacy of blind versus ultrasound-guided injections. These studies have shown that ultrasound-guided injections are associated with significantly less procedural injection pain and provide more pain relief. The pain relief lasts for a longer duration, and ultrasound-guided injections have been measured to be more effective than blind injections.

Ultimately, the improved performance of ultrasound-guided injections can lead to a decrease in health care costs per patient, while improving patient care.
