The National Sports Medicine Student-Athlete Scholarship will award $1000.00 to one graduating senior from Loudoun County Public Schools or Private Schools within Loudoun County.  Applicants will be awarded based on embodiment of good sportsmanship, strong moral character, enthusiastic and passionate leadership, diverse background, and academic merit.  To be eligible, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  1. Must be a 2024 candidate for graduation from Loudoun County Public Schools or Private School in Loudoun County
  2. Must be currently involved in high school, intramural or club sports
  3. Must have plans to pursue secondary education to include bachelor’s degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution, community college, or other accredited trade school
  4. Must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA

Application must include:

  • Resume
  • Official or unofficial copy of you Loudoun County Public School or Loudoun County Private School transcripts conferring your GPA and graduation eligibility
  • A letter from a current or past coach speaking to your sportsmanship and leadership qualities
    • Prompt: Sportsmanship is an aspiration that a sport, or activity will be enjoyed for its own sake. This is with proper consideration for fairness, ethics, respect, and a sense of fellowship with one's competitors and the ability to work as a team are characteristics that are vital in the sports medicine and sports science fields. The National Sports Medicine Institute is a leader in the sports medicine field and holds sportsmanship and leadership characteristics in high esteem. Please provide a letter of reference speaking to the applicants’ embodiment of good sportsmanship and leadership.
  • A personal reference letter speaking to your strong moral character and impact on their community
    • Prompt: The concept of character implies a variety of attributes including the existence or lack of virtues such as integrity, courage, fortitude, honesty, and loyalty. This is with proper consideration for fairness, ethics, respect, a sense of fellowship, community, and the ability to work as a team are characteristics that are vital in the sports medicine and sports science fields. The National Sports Medicine Institute holds these values in high esteem. Please provide a letter of reference speaking to the applicants’ strong moral character and the impact they have had in their community.
  • A personal essay (750 words or less)
    • Prompt: Please submit a personal essay. You choose the title. The theme should be autobiographical in nature, describing how your experience as a student-athlete have shaped  your life, allowed you to grow, and how you hope these experiences will impact your future. Think beyond how injury has impacted your experience with sports and sports medicine and focus on skills you have acquired as a student AND athlete. Please include your aspirations for the future, how you plan to give back to your community and why you should be considered for this award.
